Puerto Morelos has warm Caribbean weather throughout the year, which means there really isn't a bad season to visit. What changes is the temperature, humidity, chance of rain, crowds and the overall feeling of the town.
Winter tends to bring cooler, drier days. Spring gets hotter and sunnier. Summer is hot, humid and tropical, while late summer and fall bring a greater chance of rain and tropical weather.
If you're deciding when to visit Puerto Morelos, here's what you can realistically expect throughout the year.

Puerto Morelos has a tropical climate, so temperatures stay warm throughout most of the year.
December through February generally brings some of the most comfortable weather, with warm days and cooler evenings. March through May becomes progressively hotter and tends to offer plenty of sunshine.

Puerto Morelos Weather From December to February
Winter is one of the most popular times to visit Puerto Morelos.
Days are generally warm enough for the beach, swimming, snorkeling and outdoor activities, but temperatures are more comfortable than during the hottest months of summer. Evenings can occasionally feel cool, especially when a norte, or northern cold front, moves through the region.
If you're coming from Canada or the northern United States, it will probably still feel wonderfully warm. But having a light sweater or jacket for an occasional cooler evening isn't a bad idea.
This is also high season in the Riviera Maya, so Puerto Morelos tends to be busier and accommodation can be more expensive than during quieter parts of the year.
Puerto Morelos Weather From March to May
Spring is an excellent time to visit if you love hot, sunny weather.
March is generally warm and comfortable, while April and May become noticeably hotter. By May, humidity also begins to increase as Puerto Morelos moves toward the summer rainy season.
These months are great for beach days, snorkeling, cenotes and spending time outdoors, although midday heat can become intense later in the season.
If you're planning jungle adventures, walking around town or other outdoor activities in April or May, mornings can be much more comfortable than the hottest part of the afternoon.
Puerto Morelos Weather From June to August
Summer in Puerto Morelos is hot, humid and very tropical.
Temperatures are consistently warm, and the humidity can make it feel significantly hotter during the middle of the day. Rain becomes more common, but that doesn't mean you should expect it to rain all day.
A typical summer day can include bright sunshine, clouds building later in the day, a heavy tropical shower and sunshine again afterward.
This is a good time to plan around the heat. Spend mornings snorkeling or exploring, cool off in a cenote, enjoy the beach and leave some flexibility in your schedule for changing weather.
June also marks the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season.
Puerto Morelos Weather From September to November
September and October are among the wetter and more humid months of the year, and this period has a greater possibility of tropical storms affecting the Caribbean.
That doesn't mean a hurricane will affect Puerto Morelos during your trip. Most tropical systems do not make a direct impact here. It does mean travellers visiting during this period should pay more attention to weather forecasts and understand the cancellation policies for their accommodation and activities.
There are advantages to travelling during this period too. Puerto Morelos can feel quieter, and you'll often experience fewer visitors than during the winter high season.
By November, conditions generally begin transitioning toward the more comfortable winter weather.
When Is Rainy Season in Puerto Morelos?
Puerto Morelos doesn't have a rainy season where it simply rains every day for months.
Rain becomes more likely during the warmer part of the year, particularly from June into the fall. Tropical rain is often intense but relatively short-lived, although larger weather systems can bring longer periods of rain.
This is why looking at a weather app before your vacation can sometimes be misleading. A thunderstorm symbol every day doesn't necessarily mean you're about to spend a week indoors.
If you're visiting during the wetter months, plan your trip with a little flexibility rather than worrying about every rain icon in the forecast.
When Is Hurricane Season in Puerto Morelos?
The official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.
Puerto Morelos sits on the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo, so tropical storms and hurricanes are something visitors should be aware of during these months.
Being in Puerto Morelos during hurricane season does not mean you'll experience a hurricane. It means there is a higher possibility of tropical weather developing somewhere in the Atlantic or Caribbean during your stay.
If a significant system is approaching Quintana Roo, follow official weather information and instructions from local authorities rather than relying on social media rumours.
If you're booking a trip during hurricane season, travel insurance and flexible cancellation policies are worth considering.
What Is the Best Month to Visit Puerto Morelos?
There isn't one perfect month because it depends on what you want from your trip.
If comfortable temperatures and lower humidity matter most, December through March are excellent choices.
If you want hot weather and lots of beach time before the wetter summer months, March through May can be beautiful.
If you're comfortable with heat, humidity and occasional tropical rain, summer can still be a great time to visit, particularly if you prefer travelling outside the busiest winter season.
If you want a quieter Puerto Morelos and don't mind accepting more uncertainty with the weather, September and October can feel very different from high season.
November can be a particularly nice transition as the weather begins moving toward the cooler, drier months.
Does Weather Affect Snorkeling in Puerto Morelos?
Yes, but wind and ocean conditions often matter more than whether the sky is perfectly sunny.
Puerto Morelos sits beside the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, and snorkeling trips depend on safe marine conditions. Strong winds, waves or storms can occasionally cause the port to close to small boats.
This can happen even on a day that doesn't look particularly rainy from shore.
If snorkeling is one of the most important parts of your trip, don't leave it until your final day. Giving yourself a few possible days makes it easier to reschedule if ocean conditions aren't cooperating.
What Should You Pack for Puerto Morelos Weather?
Light, breathable clothing works throughout most of the year.
Bring comfortable sandals, swimwear, sun protection and clothing that handles heat and humidity well. A light rain layer can be useful during the wetter months, although tropical rain and heavy humidity mean you're unlikely to need anything substantial.
During winter, consider bringing one light sweater or long-sleeved layer for cooler evenings.
And regardless of the month, the Caribbean sun can be strong. Don't underestimate it just because there's a breeze or some cloud cover.
